Other platforms

Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The installer adds Microsoft Edge WebView2 when it is missing.

Or install from a terminal
powershell -c "irm https://sherin.dev/varve/install.ps1|iex"

Linux

x64 or arm64 with glibc 2.35 or newer, for example Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or Fedora 36 and later.

Or install from a terminal
curl -fsSL https://sherin.dev/varve/install.sh | bash

Prefer to build it yourself? The README explains how to build Varve from source.

One command

Install and upgrade from a terminal.

The install script checks every download against SHA256SUMS before it installs anything. Run it again to upgrade in place. After that, Varve updates itself. An .msi or .deb install updates by installing the new package.

macOS and Linux
curl -fsSL https://sherin.dev/varve/install.sh | bash
Windows
powershell -c "irm https://sherin.dev/varve/install.ps1|iex"

This is the whole app, free, with every feature. Sync and team workspaces will need a server, which you can host yourself for free or use as Varve Cloud.

How hosting works

Verify your download

Every release publishes a SHA256SUMS file next to the downloads. Check a file against it before you install:

$ shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing
varve-macos-arm64.dmg: OK
  • Updates are signed. The built-in updater checks the signature before it installs anything.
  • Preview builds are not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID or a Windows code signing certificate. The install script is not affected. A downloaded .dmg needs Open Anyway once in System Settings, Privacy and Security, and Windows SmartScreen may warn once.
  • Every build comes from the public CI, so you can trace each file back to its tag.
